What else to include?

About navigation.

There are many extras you can add to your website, either cosmetic or usefull. The golden rule here is ‘Don’t over do it’. Once all the essentials are in place take time away from the site. When you return have a fresh look, and see if it can be improved. A graphic here and there if the text looks too overwhelming, pop-up windows to show more detail of an image, maybe even a new set of menu buttons would look better.
Always bear in mind that too many additions will slow down the loading process (not everyone has the luxury of Broadband).
If you do choose me to design your site I will give you plenty of opportunity to make changes.

Navigation is one of the most important things to get right on your site. No matter how good your design looks, or the excellent quality of the content, it is no good if the visitors can’t find their way around!
There should be a navigation bar on each page, pointing to the main pages. You can also use sub-menus on pages that relate to each other. Links to pages or other sites related to the subject should also be included in the text.
The easier it is to get to what they are looking for, the longer they will stay. If there are text links at the bottom of each page as well, it saves returning to the top to move on.

Your name in lights.

Your company logo.

Well, not exactly. As I said earlier, we don’t want to Banner heading. Click to enlargeoverdo thinks, but you do need some sort of banner, even if it only appears on the home page. The cost of creating a title banner is.....FREE, when you order your a site from me. You can use your own if you prefer. I can always scan a heading from your stationary or other source.

A logo will also help visitors remember who you are.It doesn’t have to be of any great My current logo. Actual sizesize. I doesn’t even have to say anything! Look at the Nike™ tick, or the Mercedes™ symbol, not a word on them but everyone knows what they are. You can find out more about banners & logos on the Graphics page.

Margins and sidebars.

Background images.

Margins can serve a useful purpose. They can also be used to improve the overall look of the website. Another use for margins is to make the site look ‘busy’ by adding advertisements or snippets of information.

It’s OK to use a background image, provided it suits the site and doesn’t interfere with the text too much. The one you are viewing now is not too bad but would be better if I faded it a bit to make reading easier. It can be a bit distracting if used too much. For more on the subject go to Colour page.
